London to Stirling by Train

By Stirling Guide editors · Updated 22 October 2026

The quickest way from London is LNER’s direct train from King’s Cross, but LNER runs only one a day: on a weekday it left at 12:03 and reached Stirling 5h 12m later, at about 17:15, with no change. At any other time, take LNER or Lumo to Edinburgh Waverley and change there for a ScotRail train to Stirling, which adds only around ten minutes to the journey, or take one of Lumo’s four direct trains from London Euston.

Changing at Edinburgh Waverley

The leg from King’s Cross to Waverley takes about 4h 10m, and the ScotRail train on to Stirling about 50 minutes more. With the change, the whole trip comes to roughly 5h 23m, and the weekday list had 21 King’s Cross departures that connected, between 05:45 and 18:30, mostly on the half hour. The wait at Waverley worked out at about 23 minutes on a typical run, enough to absorb a small delay on the first leg without losing the Stirling connection.

Lumo direct from Euston

Lumo’s direct Stirling trains start at London Euston, and on the weekday we checked there were four, at 06:11, 10:19, 13:19 and 16:36. With nine stops they take about 5h 55m on a typical run and 5h 36m at best, so they are slower than changing at Waverley, but there is no change between Euston and Stirling, which makes the 06:11 a simpler early start than the 05:45 or 05:48 from King’s Cross. The planner also showed a 05:31 and then hourly journeys from 07:30 to 18:30 with a change in Glasgow, taking about 5h 26m.

The Caledonian Sleeper

For an overnight trip, the Caledonian Sleeper leaves Euston at 23:45 and reaches Glasgow Central about 7h 45m later, around 07:30. A nine-minute walk from Central to Queen Street and a 33-minute ScotRail train then put you in Stirling at about 08:24, 8h 39m after leaving London. It suits anyone who would rather sleep through the journey and start the day in Stirling than give up a whole daytime to the train.

Arriving

Whichever way you come, the walk from Stirling station to King Street is about seven minutes and some 425 metres long.
