Glasgow to Stirling by Train

By Stirling Guide editors · Updated 22 October 2026

Go from Glasgow Queen Street, where ScotRail runs direct trains to Stirling. The typical journey is about 32 minutes and the fastest 25, with one stop on the way, and on a weekday there were several an hour between 05:51 and 22:19, 65 Stirling departures in all. That is more Stirling trains than run from Edinburgh, Perth or Dundee, and the earliest of them, the 05:51, reaches Stirling before half past six.

How often they run

There is no need to aim for a particular train. In the busier hours four or five leave Queen Street for Stirling, and the longest gap on the weekday list was about half an hour, between the 06:19 and the 06:50. The timings are not evenly spaced, though: the 07:07 and 07:10 leave three minutes apart, as do the 10:08 and 10:11, so two trains in quick succession can be followed by a longer wait.

An evening in Glasgow has to finish in time for the 22:19, the last direct Stirling departure from Queen Street on the weekday timetable we checked.

Starting from Glasgow Central

These trains leave from Queen Street, not Glasgow Central. If you are arriving at Central on another train and heading on to Stirling, the walk across to Queen Street takes about nine minutes, so allow for that before picking which Stirling departure to aim for.

Slower options the planner showed

The planner also listed Glasgow–Stirling journeys with a change at Camelon, roughly hourly and taking about an hour, and a few with a change at Polmont at around 67 minutes. Both take about twice as long as the direct Queen Street service, so for an ordinary trip there is no reason to use them.

Arriving

From Stirling station it is about 425 metres to King Street; allow seven minutes or so on foot to reach it, which makes the walk under a quarter as long as the train ride from Glasgow.
